I'm trying to learn more about font design and how and when to use them. Today I finished editing a short dance video and as I was placing the end credits I felt my font choice completely took away from the rest of the piece. I didn't even bother changing it because I felt stuck knowing I knew what every single font looked like in Final Cut Pro 7 and that none of them would do the piece justice. So with that I'll need to expand my font knowledge and maybe download some new fonts this week. If anybody has any suggestions, I am down to hear em.

ReplyDeleteThis site has all kind of interesting fonts. Better yet, most are free, so you can nab a bunch and experiment.
Also, http://www.youworkforthem.com/ These aren't free but well made and useful for browsing and getting ideas.
http://welovetypography.com/ -- inspiration
http://friendsoftype.com/ - more interested in hand-lettering these days, myself. Some good stuff here.
Marc thank you. These sites are great! I'll be spending the rest of my afternoon looking at them.
Deletehttp://www.losttype.com - has fonts available on a sliding scale, you could even put in 0 dollars, but I usually pitch in 5 or 10.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.typography.com/ - I love Hoefler Frere-Jones fonts. Gotham was made famous by the Obama campaign, but they have a lot of other quality ones.
And if you want a fun primer on typography, the book Just My Type: A Book About Fonts by Simon Garfield is an interesting/informative read.
Thank you Brooks! I'll totally check them out.
